In the Diablo 2 Resurrected 2.4 Patch that is going to launch again, many spots in D2 Hell difficulty previously ranging from level 78 to 84 have been upgraded to the maximum 85 level. What new D2R level 85 areas are coming to Patch 2.4 and Ladder Season 1? Let’s go through all the new Diablo 2 lvl 85 areas and their locations as well as benefits.
New D2R Level 85 Areas - Diablo 2 LVL 85 Areas Coming in 2.4 Ladder
Monsters in these areas will now spawn at lvl 85, potentially making them a bit more difficult, but are also capable of dropping the best D2R items in the game. These areas with a few exceptions are mostly zones that were optional while playing through the game, as there was no quest progression in these areas, so bringing them up to level 85 gives them a reason for players to visit them, these areas are littered with elite groups, most of them contain golden chests and some of them contain super unique monsters. Act 1: Underground Passage
Underground Passage can be found in Act 1, following the path through the Stony Field previously, when you were in the Underground Passage, you'd be looking for an exit to the Dark Wood and you would usually ignore level 2, but now level 2 has been made in level 85 area, this level can contain creatures with all four elemental immunes, fire, cold, lightning and poison. It contains a golden chest at the end.
Act 2: Stony Tomb
Stony Tomb, previously 78 and 79 respectively, is accessible from the Rocky Waste outside of town, the Stony Tomb contains lightning and poison immunes, level 2 contains a super unique monster named Creeping Feature, and also contains a golden treasure chest.
Act 3: Arachnid Lair
Arachnid Lair, previously level 79, is the twin to the Spider Cavern, these both appear within the Spider Forest in Act 3. Arachnid Lair can contain the fire, lightning, and poison immunes, it was used to find Khalim's Eye for the Khalim's Will. However, Arachnid Lair is only responsible for containing a golden chest.
Act 3: Swampy Pits
Swampy Pits, previously levels 80, 81, and 82 respectively, the Swampy Pits is found within the Flayer Jungle in Act 3, which is similar to the Flayer Dungeon, although slightly smaller. The Gloams and stygian dolls can be pretty deadly, so be careful. Swampy Pits contains lightning and poison immunities on level 1 and 3 and also includes fire immunities on level 2. Level 3 contains a golden chest.
Act 3: Disused Fane
Disused Fane is previously level 84, accessible from the Kurast Bazaar, which is one of the six temples generated in the hunt for Lam Esen's Tome, which is ultimately found in the ruined temple. The Disused Fane is a small area without any unique features, but it can contain all six immunities.
Act 3: Forgotten Reliquary
Forgotten Reliquary, previously level 84. It is located in Upper Kurast, is also one of the incorrect locations to find the Lam Esen's Tome, the Forgotten Reliquary is also a small area without any unique features, it can contain magic, fire, and cold immunes.
Act 3: Ruined Temple
Ruined Temple, previously level 84. It is in the Kurast Bazaar, which is the correct location to scout the Lam Esen's Tome, however, this zone was also increased to level 85. Here you'll find a super unique named Battlemaid Sarina, who is a unique Flesh Hunter. The Ruined Temple contains magic fire and cold immunes.
Act 3: Sewers
Sewers, previously level 84, can be accessed from either the Kurast Bazaar or Upper Kurast, level 2 was always a level 85 zone, however level 1 now also joins it as a level 85 area, the Sewers contains magic, lightning, cold, and poison resist, in level 2, you'll find a super unique monster Icehawk Riftwing, level 2 also contains a golden chest.
Act 5: Abaddon
Abaddon, previously level 81, is found in the Frigid Highlands not too far from the town in Act 5. It's an easily identifiable landmark as it summons a red portal similar to the one that takes you to the cowl, Abaddon also uses the same layout as the Furnace of Pain from the Pandemonium event and contains physical, fire, lightning, cold, and poison immunes, it also contains a unique monster usually near the end of the zone, at the end of Abaddon, you'll find a golden chest.
Act 5: Pit of Acheron
Pit of Acheron, previously level 82, found in the Arreat Plateau is very similar to Abaddon, it contains physical magic, fire, cold and poisoned immunes and contains a golden chest.
Act 5: Infernal Pit
Infernal Pit, previously level 83. It is accessible from the Frozen Tundra and similar to the previous two areas, this is the third and final red portal being upgraded in Act 5, the Infernal Pit contains immunities of all six types, physical, magic, fire, lightning, cold, and poison, it also contains a golden chest at the end.
Act 5: Drifter Cavern
Drifter Cavern, previously level 84, can be found within the Glacial Trail, it contains physical, fire, lightning, cold, and poison resist, it contains a golden chest at the end.
Act 5: Icy Cellar
Icy Cellar, previously level 83, is reachable from the Ancients' Way, the entrance to the Icy Cellar is guarded by champion monsters, it includes physical lightning, cold, and poison immunes, it also contains a super unique monster named Snapchip Shatter and it contains a golden chest at the end.
