With Endless Heist rapidly approaching in Path of Exile 3.16, the question everyone's been asking is "What build should I play for Endless Heist?", so here we dive into some tips and tricks of running it, as well as give you the best Endless Heist build options.
That's a deceptively challenging thing to suggest because as it turns out you don't really need a specialized build to level up in Heist, so while we will be talking about the tips and recommendations for the best builds for Endless Heist in Path of Exile 3.16.
First, we going to talk about some tips for Endless Heist in general:
Tip 1 - Huck is your best friend
Huck is one of the rogues you unlock early, he's capable of running lock picking, brute force, demolition, and engineering. He's great because he offers an EXP bonus. And at low levels, he can do a pretty respectable amount of damage, though this will fall off quickly once you get into the end game. As a result, you'll be able to level up more efficiently if you use Huck, even if this doesn't mean you're running the best most cutting-edge contracts.
Tip 2 - Run as many deception contracts as you can get
You're most at risk of death in the chaos on your way out when the doors have closed and traps block your way. Enemies will pile up behind the doors and after all, doors are the true enemy and Path of Exile. What if you just didn't have to deal with them? If that sounds at all appealing to you, then run as many deception contracts as you can get. They'll be a little slower on the way in as you'll have to watch Nile's role play with some of the guards, but on the way out you'll have a much easier time as those doors don't respawn. This can also mean that deception contracts with dangerous mods are a little safer as you're never in that situation where enemies pile up behind a door and they all blast you as soon as it opens.
Tip 3 - Don't ignore rogue gear
Even low-level POE items will be useful, they'll let you grab a few more chests or allow your rogues to give you some auras, just throw some random crafting POE currency at them, toss them on and you can always perfect things later. By the same token, don't be afraid to run your contracts white. After all, your goal here is to level up, not get the maximum amount of loot possible, and anytime you die that's going to set you back. So especially as you approach your goal be it 90 or 95, do consider running contracts white, because after a point, it's just not worth the risk of death and there are certain mods that roll on contracts like minus max res that escalates with alert level, that is just way too dangerous.
So now that we have established some general tips for Endless Heist, we can use these to establish what sort of build you want to do the heisting. If your goal is to get to level 90 or get to level 95 for some MTX, your goal is to not die. This doesn't mean having a ton of DPS, running super fast, or going after the most impressive and rippy heists for the maximum amount of loot; while this means being tanky surviving your mistakes and being able to reliably run contracts over and over and over again. One of the main differences between Endless Heist and a lot of the other events is it doesn't really scale. Heist isn't that challenging as a piece of content there are some very dangerous and rippy mods, but those can easily be avoided by just scouring all of the contracts you run and if you take those out, there are very few situations where your character should feel truly threatened. So as a result you're very likely to have a boring trek to 90 or 95, but you're definitely going to get there, it's just going to be a matter of putting the time in, much like how in endless delve the most boring, but the best way to level is just going sideways as soon as you hit level 83, don't try to push down any further and collect your free MTX afterward. So what sort of builds naturally gravitate towards this?
Here are our suggestions for the best Path of Exile Endless Heist Build:
Necromancer - Certain ascendancies definitely sprung into your mind is a necromancer, you get block scaling and if you're playing minions, you're able to scale your own defenses very easily. Minions will do the damage and you can do the rest. Alternatively, if you don't like minions, you could always do something like detonating dead or volatile dead.
Toxic Rain Champion - Here's the point where we insert the obligatory toxic rain champion, because it's still a good build for beginners, and if you haven't played it yet, it's a great way to get some levels or grind out some MTX.
Shield Crush - If you want something a little bit different, we would suggest shield crush gladiator scaling bleed or shield crush champion scaling impale. Shield crush is a really solid skill, it works very well in enclosed spaces and it's probably going to be what we end up playing.
Guardian - We also expect guardian to be a solid alternative to necromancer if you want a really tanky build. On the other hand, if you don't want to play minions but you also want something that deals damage, we strongly recommend totems, something like a totem hierophant will be in a very good spot.
Miner - miners are really good at setting up all of your damage on the other side of a door, and saboteur is a fairly defensive ascendancy just be sure to run determination and add molten shell and you should have a pretty good time.
Chieftain - If you really do want to play a marauder, we'd actually go with some sort of chieftain. Chieftain is naturally one of the most defensive ascendancies in Path of Exile, you can scale ignite or you could do some sort of melee build maybe even some ancestral warchief totems. The more defenses you have, the more likely you are to be able to safely sit behind your totem army while they do all the heavy lifting.
So now that we've spent some time talking about good builds for Endless Heist, what are some examples of bad builds or things to avoid for Endless Heist?
General's Cry Blade Flurry Berserker - One example of this would be to play a general's cry blade flurry berserker, this gives you none of what you need and everything that you don't, it doesn't have very many defenses. It's clunky to play, the damage does terribly when you involve doors. In fact the clones will kind of just stand on one side channel and miss most of the enemies. So at the end of the day, this doesn't really work very well.
Lightning Strike Raider - On the other hand, something like a lightning strike raider also won't be a great choice unless you really know what you're doing. If you try to build it out all evasion try to go for a lot of damage and attack speed, you're just going to end up tanking the floor, which is to say that a door will open enemies will shotgun you and you will be exploded. Also all that speed you get from being a raider doesn't matter because all that matters is the job speed of your rogues, which unfortunately you can't invest in by gearing your own character.
So hopefully this has given you some build ideas or a general direction to go for the Endless Heist.
